May 25, 2023 African Liberation Day

It is the dawn of a new era. Now than ever, the spirit of PanAfricanismo is awakening and steering the consciousness for sovereignty and true freedom in Africa. The sacrifices of our fore fathers that birthed independence accross the continent in the 60s must not be in vain says Olugbenga Adewoyin, president of the movement during his introduction speech at the commemoration of Africa day 2023. He further asked, 'what is the state of our democracy in Africa and what is the level of our respect for human rights'? These two questions he said are very fundamental if we are truly serious about achieving ''Africa we want'' and leaving a good legacy for the next generation.

The themes, i.e Leadership, Democracy and Human Rights was richly presented by Hon. Carla Lima, leader of Pan Africa movement at the Parliament, a member of the House of Assembly, the Republic of Cape Verde and Dr. Arlindo Sanches, a specialist from the National Human Rights Commission, the Republic of Cape Verde. After deep rounds of diagnostic debates, some recommendations were made which will be published in the ''Awake Africa'' literature, the very first edition in 2023. Many more constructive inputs were made at the conference by the #EuropeanUnion Ambassador Madam Carla Grijó and the representative of the Mayor of Praia Dr. Fernando Pinto as well as Madam Eurídice Mascarenhas, the president of #CNDHC Comissão Nacional Para os Direitos Humanos e a Cidadania in their commemoration speeches and welcome address respectively.
